NİĞDE SUNGURBEY MOSQUE TO OPEN DURING RAMADAN
Restoration works at the Sungurbey Mosque — a fine example of Seljuk architecture built in the 14th century by Niğde Governor Sungur Bey during the Ilkhanid period — are nearing completion. The mosque, distinguished by its finely cut stonework, monumental portal, and single minaret, has been undergoing restoration under the supervision of the Directorate General of Foundations.
As part of the project, the added columns in the prayer hall were removed with great care to preserve the authenticity of the original design, and the original stone columns and arches were reconstructed. The roof was completely renewed, covered with titanium-zinc sheets supported by a steel framework, while conservation and cleaning works on the portal, mihrab, and exterior walls have been completed.
